The Eisenhower Series College Program is a fifty-year-old outreach effort run by the Army War College offered to university and community groups around the nation. Each year, selected service members travel nationwide to strengthen connections between the American Military and the society it serves.

Senior military and policy representatives will speak on current topics followed by an informal Q&A. The objective of the program is to provide a broad and unique series of fora to discuss and debate contemporary and future national security issues. Both the officers and the public benefit from an open, honest and frank exchange on significant issues of national and international concern.

Attention, everyone! The Hanover Insurance Group, in collaboration with OPIM Innovate, will be sponsoring an alumni-run Agile Data Analytics workshop, today (October 18th).  Want to know how data analytics is affected by agile software development? If so, please join us for a comprehensive overview from 1-3PM in BUSN 127.

Note: this workshop is part of the Hanover Image Analytics Challenge and is meant to replace the Data Modeling workshop originally scheduled for October 3rd. Not part of the challenge? Want to dive into the world of analytics and better your functional skill set? This semester, OPIM Innovate is hosting a data analytics workshop series. These workshops are associated with the Image Analytics Challenge for The Hanover Insurance Group. Students may attend a workshop, even if they are not participating in the challenge.

The following workshops will be held from 4-6 PM in BUSN 127:

• Data Modeling – 10/10/19 (upcoming)
• Predictive Analytics– 10/31/19
• Data Visualization– 11/7/19
• CBA of Data Models – 11/14/19

These workshops are designed to provide you with hands-on experience to learn about data analytics. Please share the word and encourage students who may be interested to attend the workshops. For more information visit the Innovate Workshops page.

Ready to take your analytical skills to the next level? Hanover Insurance will be sponsoring an Image Analytics Challenge, open to all UConn students, on November 20th. To prepare, students will be required to create an interdisciplinary team of four and attend as many workshops and mentoring sessions as possible.

For those interested in having the Challenge count for academic credit, there is a 1-credit OPIM 4895 elective available. To participate in the class, students have to attend the workshops and present their case. For students outside the elective, participating in the competition automatically earns them a $100 scholarship. All teams have the chance of earning up to $500 dollars per person and may be offered an on-campus internship from Hanover Insurance.

Interested in bettering your problem-solving, teamwork, and presentation skills? The Operations and Information Management Department will be hosting its fourth annual MIS Case Competition on October 4th in the Gladstein Lab (BUSN 391). Students are required to form teams of three, with two team members currently studying in the School of Business, and present a solution to a business case.

The team that comes in first place will be rewarded with a $1500 cash prize that will be divided into three $500 scholarships.

Want to pet some pups? On Tuesday, September 10th from 3 PM to 7 PM, the Information Management Association (IMA) and Student Health and Wellness will be hosting a pet therapy session in the School of Business, BUSN 116. Come unwind with furry friends and celebrate UConn’s first school-sanctioned pet therapy event!

If you’re interested in learning more about IMA, their informational meeting will follow shortly after from 7 PM to 8 PM.

Attention entrepreneurs and innovators! The UConn Co-op Legacy Fellowship is currently taking applications for social impact projects! Successful pitches receive a Change Grant, or a $2,000 max reward to go towards any project intended for social good.

In order to be eligible to receive a Change Grant, projects must meet one of the following criteria:

• be beneficial to the UConn community or any external community
• go towards the education and enrichment of populations in need
• be a creative project focusing on social issues
• be a product or service that fulfills an unmet need and positively contributes to the world at large
